The mayor of València, María José Catalá, announced this Friday that the City Council that she presides will extend the stay of those affected by the brutal Campanar fire who have been staying in a municipal building for three more months. A fire that killed 10 people and devoured two buildings in this neighborhood of Valencia in the worst fire in memory of the city.
The latest information provided by the Valencia City Council highlighted that, in total, there were 99 families – a total of 229 people – who were rehoused in the public apartments that were intended for social rental and that, of them, only four had abandoned them. after finding a housing alternative.
This Friday, the mayor communicated the decision to the municipal spokespersons before taking the approval of the extension to the Government Board. Catalá considers that this leaves “more room” for the affected families “to find” an affordable rental”, something that, by the way, is not at all easy in the city of Valencia.
Furthermore, the mayor of the PP has pointed out, with the new deadline, the six months of free stay will coincide with the start of the rental aid promised by the Generalitat Valenciana for those affected. Catalá recalled that the idea is to make this stay compatible with the final use of these homes, which is to reduce the list of rental applicants, which exceeds a thousand people.
