Esquerra Republicana once again asks the parliamentary groups of the investiture to refrain from participating in the debate on the motion of censure registered by Vox. The Republicans believe that it is a “circus of four or five rings” and prefer not to intervene in the plenary session that will deal with this initiative. However, the spokesman for the formation in the Lower House, Gabriel Rufián, has lowered hopes that the rest of the forces will accompany them and, consequently, ERC will debate internally about what role it finally plays.
“Do not participate in their mandangas.” This is the premise that Esquerra, in the words of Rufián on the Vox motion, raises for a plenary session that has no confirmed date at the moment. Vox registered it yesterday in Congress with the absence of the protagonist of the motion, the economist Ramón Tamames. The table must now decide in which parliamentary session to place this far-right initiative.
The party’s spokeswoman, Marta Vilalta, already explained yesterday that they were in talks with other political forces to make a joint decision on the role they should adopt. Esquerra proposes “not laundering the ideas and policies” of Vox, so his first option is to abstain from the debate. This morning, Rufián has insisted in the same sense so as not to contribute to what he describes as a “circus” which, in his opinion, will lead to a lot of “noise”. Even so, he has acknowledged the difficulty of reaching an agreement. In this case, the Republican leader has specified, ERC will have an “internal debate” to settle its final position.
Rufián has also criticized Ramón Tamames for his ideological evolution, after going through the Communist Party of Spain, Izquierda Unida, the Democratic and Social Center and even leading a vote of no confidence in Vox. “He has gone through all the existing political spaces except PACMA,” the ERC deputy snapped sardonically. “We respect the mechanism of motion of censure and Mr. Tamames; the question is if he is respecting himself”, he pointed out about the 89-year-old economist.
On the ERC proposal, Unidas Podemos has not yet made any decision. Its spokesman, Pablo Echenique, has stated that there are “different opinions” on the issue, but that the formation has not yet opted for any because “the date (of the plenary session) does not seem close.” Aitor Esteban, from the PNV, has guaranteed that his party will intervene because “all parliamentary procedures deserve a reply.”
Compromís, for its part, has made intervention in the debate conditional on whether the PSOE does so. However, its leader Joan Baldoví has ??specified that the party is “considering” what to do. Likewise, he has harshly charged Tamames for “lend” to a “farce”.
The PDeCAT has already advanced that it will participate in the debate on the motion of censure with a “brief” intervention. The deputy Ferran Bel has justified it so as not to feed the “show” of an initiative “it will not help the prestige” of Congress.
