Ukrainian lawmaker pleads for help as Russia attacks Ukraine.

Halyna Yanchenko, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, stated from Kyiv that Ukrainians were in danger because Russian forces had bombed Ukraine.

“Please save the Ukrainian women, men and children. Yanchenko, a 33-year old mother of two young children, said, “Please save our people. Hundreds and possibly hundreds of people are being killed tonight.”
Yanchenko stated that the world is spending too much time thinking about what to do with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She said, “He knows exactly what he wants.” “He wants to invade and kill our country.”

While President Biden has imposed some sanctions, on Thursday, he said that Russia would not be able to access SWIFT. This system is used by large financial institutions for international transactions. Yanchenko called on world leaders to do the same.

“If Russia is blocked from SWIFT it will be really helpful because then Russian citizens can go out on the streets and ask Putin what he’s doing with Ukraine and their country.”

After hearing the explosions at 5:05 a.m. on Thursday, she said that she woke up and started telling people to get underground cover or in the subway. She said that Ukrainians are “horrified” and are ready to defend their land.

She said, “We are standing here on our land, in the country, sovereign country.”

An official in the Ukrainian government stated that Russian troops had killed “dozens” of Ukrainian soldiers in an attack on their country. According to reports, Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser said that Russian troops had taken control over the Chernobyl nuclear plant. This was after Ukrainian forces tried to defend it.
