Serhiivka (Ukraine) — President Volodymyr Zeleskyy has promised that Ukraine’s forces would retake Russian-occupied territories. He believes that Ukraine’s troops will be able to reclaim roughly one-fifth the country Russia has taken.

Holly Williams, CBS News’ senior foreign correspondent, reports that Russia continues to bombard civilian areas deep within Ukrainian territory. This includes a recent missile strike which killed Vera Maksimenko, a retired schoolteacher.

An airstrike struck her home on Saturday, killing her. Her peaceful existence was ended by a Soviet-era missile that was supposed to destroy warships.

“Mothers, Russia, why are you sending your sons to murder our people?” One woman was furious as she passed her murdered neighbor’s coffin.

Williams was told by Ukrainian military officials that they are investigating the strike as war crimes.

It’s a mystery to Maksimenko’s family and friends. They are still trying to figure out why the Russian army would target the elderly lady or the small coastal town of Odesa.

She was a teacher for 37 years. Williams was told by a friend that she loved the children, but that evil people had come to America and killed her.

Dmitriy, her son, said that Russia is a terrorist country. He doesn’t want to take revenge. He does not want more violence.

Williams told him that he didn’t need to kill. “I want justice.”
