The Local Police of Almassora (Castellón) has given two residents of this town 600 euros that were found two years ago on the street and which they took to the police station to locate its owner, as reported by the town council of this municipality in a statement. . The delivery occurred after no one claimed that amount.
The local agents thus comply with current regulations, which establishes returning items or money after two years and without the owner of the same having claimed them from whoever found it, this municipal administration has pointed out.
On April 13, 2022, two women from Almassora reported to the Local Police that they had found several bills lying on the street on the corner of Santa Quitèria Street and Trinidad Street for a total amount of 600 euros. That money was deposited in a safe at the police station waiting to be claimed.
Since the owner does not appear and as is reflected in the delivery document that has been carried out, the provisions of article 615 of the Civil Code are followed. This stipulates that “whoever finds a movable thing, which is not a treasure, must return it to its previous possessor” and that “if this owner is not known, he must immediately consign it to the power of the mayor of the town where the discovery was verified.”
Likewise, this article indicates that “after two years without the owner having presented itself, the thing found or its value will be awarded to the person who found it.”
“These two residents of Almassora demonstrated great civic awareness by handing over the money they found on the street so that its owner could recover it. But now, two years later and as the regulations state, they must be the ones who have it because they become the deserving owners,” said the councilor for Citizen Security in the town, Silvana Rovira.
