Two farmers arrested after an altercation with the Police at an unauthorized demonstration in Seville

They were setting out on an unauthorized march on foot from the Betis Football Field towards Plaza de España when, shortly before arriving, at the María Luisa Park, they turned around and tried to cut off traffic in one of the main avenues of the city of Seville. The police cordon, which until now had accompanied them peacefully, stopped their intentions, leading to a confrontation between officers and protesters that has resulted in two arrests for altercations with the security forces.

The protest against the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development had the presence of about 400 attendees (‘independent’ farmers and ranchers) from all the provinces of Andalusia, and its objective was to show their discontent before the Government Subdelegation for the policies in this matter.

It was this morning, shortly after 10:30 a.m., when the protesters gathered on the Benito Villamarín esplanade walked to Plaza de España in an unauthorized protest, as noted by the Government Subdelegation. Without trucks, dressed in Protestant vests and behind a banner that read ‘Without agriculture or livestock, the table is empty’, the attendees caused the first cuts on Avenida de la Palmera. Two of the three lanes of the road to the city center were unusable for traffic, although until then no conflict had arisen with the National Police agents.

It was when they were going to enter the María Luisa Park that some also wanted to cut this Sevillian artery. At that time the first clashes took place between members of the State security force and the protesters.

By pushing and defying the instructions of the Police, whose officers urged the participants in the protest to continue their walk, some of them tried to surpass the cordon set up with numerous vans. The situation has become so complicated that there has been a police charge and two of the farmers have ended up detained, while the rest of those attending the demonstration have stated that they will not move from where they are until their companions are released.

This mobilization is part of the protests that the rural sector has been carrying out for almost a month to demand solutions to the situation that the agricultural sector is going through in Spain. On this occasion, it was a group of independents who had the support of the 6F Platform, which, among others, defends the repeal of the European Green Deal, demands a food sovereignty law in accordance with “our culture”, a law against relabeling, They demand the elimination of the digital notebook and request a national hydrological plan that “favors all Spaniards.”
