Agents of the National Police have arrested two people in Madrid for allegedly participating in a crime of receiving two paintings by the artist Francis Bacon, each valued at five million euros. So far, three of the five paintings that were stolen from a home in Madrid in 2015 have been recovered.

The investigation began in 2015 after the theft, from a home in Madrid, of five paintings by the artist Francis Bacon valued at a total of 25 million euros, as reported by the National Police in a statement.

The investigations of the agents of the Historical Heritage Brigade have led to the arrest in Madrid, this Thursday, of two men allegedly involved in a crime of receiving two of the stolen paintings.

Investigations have revealed that the two paintings pending recovery would have been in the hands of those arrested. In addition to these two arrested, since the investigation began, a total of 14 people allegedly involved have been arrested and three of the five stolen paintings have been recovered.

The investigation remains open until the recovery of the two remaining works and the arrest of other people who could be related to the events, according to the Police.
