The degree of tension of Twitter has entered the worst alert since Elon Musk acquired it seven months ago. The businessman announced on Saturday that the number of posts that each user can read is temporarily limited as a measure to stop “extreme levels of data extraction” from “several hundred organizations” that would correspond to artificial intelligence companies, although he did not cite none.
Musk set initial limits that have since been increased. At first, verified account holders – who pay a subscription, are recognized organizations or famous people – could read a maximum of 6,000 posts a day, while unverified users stayed at 600 posts. Newly registered unverified users were left with 300 posts a day. Since then, the limit has increased to 10,000 posts for first, 1,000 for second, and 500 for new ones.
The network itself was filled with outraged comments from users who doubt the future of Twitter. Since his arrival, Musk has fired most of the company’s employees and has opened a subscription payment model of eight euros per month, which are now verified users.
The businessman has appointed a new CEO to replace him at the head of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino, a former advertising executive at NBC Universal, whose main mission is to restore relationships with advertisers who have left the platform since the arrival of the South African businessman.
The paradox of limiting the number of posts that can be read is that it directly affects the ads that can be seen. One of the many problems that Twitter may face in the near future is the departure of a platform of the same type that Meta is preparing, which will be called Threads.
