Junts per Catalunya enters the campaign with a clear strategy of its objectives both on 23-J and in the subsequent scenario that it wants to play in Spain and Catalonia. The general secretary of the formation, Jordi Turull, has underlined today his commitment to bring to Madrid a new strategy that subordinates any pact to real commitment on two basic issues: amnesty for all people with pending cases due to the process and the right to Catalonia to decide on its political future. Within this framework, the post-convergents are working to become the “pal de paller” of the independence movement in Catalonia. That is to say, they pursue the sorpasso of ERC.
Turull made these reflections at the conference organized by Barcelona Tribuna, where he explained that the strategy followed by political Catalanism in recent decades in Madrid has not produced any results, rather it has had the opposite effect. Spain’s modernization process, its incorporation into the core of the EU, promoted in part by Catalonia, has become an attempt to undermine “the foundations of the Catalan nation”, he pointed out. According to Turull’s analysis, what both the PSOE and the PP now want is to “undo the national sentiment of Catalonia.” Political Catalanism, therefore, has to give way to a new paradigm.
From Junts, an attempt is being made to combat the message of the “useful vote” that is launched from progressive sectors to avoid the triumph of the right, recalling the “systematic lamination of powers and rights” in Catalonia. He has cited the lack of investment, the initiatives against the Catalan school, the immersion, the Catalonia operation, the espionage of political leaders, an unbridled prosecutor’s office, among other issues.
This appeal for a paradigm shift in politics in Congress was made in Barcelona Tribuna in a conference presented by Miquel Roca, president of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country, who was for 18 years the spokesperson of the CiU group in Madrid- and to which the majority of the training has attended. Among others, Anna Erra, president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, president of the formation, Albert Batet, president of the group in the Parliament, former councilor Jaume Giró have attended. Jordi Juan, director of La Vanguardia, and Antoni Cañete, president of Pimec, also attended.
Turull has pointed out that in the strategy with the State it is no longer possible to separate the economic and social demand from the advances towards a clear advance in the political sphere.
For this reason, and looking towards the path followed by ERC, it has considered that “uncritical support” does not give any result, referring to the dialogue table between the Government and the Generalitat. Not only has it not yielded results, he has stressed, but it has even put an end to “ridicule” from the Executive branch on this initiative.
Given the scenario that may arise from 23-J, JxCat is clear about how it will assert its support in the event that its deputies are necessary to form a majority -with amnesty and the right to say in the center-. The survey published on Sunday by La Vanguardia gave the juntaires between 8 and 9 deputies, although the right and the extreme right could obtain an absolute majority. Meanwhile, the formation wants to advance on the Catalan stage to rebuild its forces and position itself as the reference force of the independence movement thinking about the next Catalan elections.
