Trump’s Inauguration: A Historic Ceremony with Symbolic Bibles

Trump’s Sentimental Bible

President-elect Donald Trump is set to have a remarkable inauguration ceremony, marking the 60th Presidential Inauguration with a unique touch. During his swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Trump will place his hand on not just one but two significant Bibles. One of these Bibles holds deep sentimental value to the President-elect.

Trump’s Bible, given to him by his mother in 1955, has a rich history. It was used to commemorate his Sunday Church Primary School graduation at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, New York. This religious text is a 1953 revised standard version published by Thomas Nelson and Sons in New York. Trump’s name is embossed on the lower part of the front cover, and inside, there are signatures of church officials, an inscription of the president’s name, and details about when it was presented to him.

The Lincoln Bible

In addition to his personal Bible, Trump will also use the Lincoln Bible during his inauguration. This historic Bible, first used in 1861 to swear-in the 16th U.S. president, holds immense significance. It has only been used three times since, including by President Obama at each of his inaugurations and by President Trump at his first inauguration in 2017. The burgundy velvet-bound book is now part of the collections of the Library of Congress.

A Historic Moment

When President Trump takes the oath of office as the 45th President of the United States, he will do so facing a bust of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on the federal holiday commemorating King’s legacy. This powerful moment will be etched in history as a symbol of unity and progress.

The use of these symbolic Bibles not only adds a personal touch to the inauguration ceremony but also connects Trump to the rich history and traditions of the United States. As we witness this historic moment unfold, let us reflect on the significance of these gestures and the weight they carry in shaping the future of the nation.
