In these municipal elections, a total of seven candidates are presented in Tremp, something historic for the capital of Pallars Jussà. Compromise for Tremp repeats with deputy Sílvia Romero as candidate. The current mayor, Maria Pilar Cases, presents herself again with a completely renewed list and Junts per Tremp presents a new candidate: Quim Delgado.

With the incorporation of four new candidacies, it will be seen how the distribution of the plenary session of the consistory will be and what post-electoral pacts there will be to govern. The four candidacies are: Sumem per Tremp, with Diego Palomares as candidate; Ara Tremp-Pacte Local, with Joseo Fillat at the top of the list; the Popular Party that is presented again in Tremp 8 years later with the candidacy of Susana Torrejón; and Vox, with Alejandro Javier Corona, a group that is presented for the first time in the capital of Pallars Jussà.

The PSC has won all the elections since 1995 and in 2017, led by the historic Víctor Orrit, they achieved an absolute majority, the first since the resumption of democracy. Since then, the three subsequent legislatures have been won by the Socialists in number of votes and councilors. However, the pact between CiU and ERC and the subsequent one between ERC and Junts made the Socialists remain in opposition.

Now, Romero opts for the Tremp City Council with the current six councilors in the consistory, who have been in opposition this last legislature. An absolute majority would stop the pact between ERC and Junts that left him out of the mayoralty in 2019.

On the contrary, the Republican Cases hopes to revalidate herself as mayor with a fairly renewed list with the will to “continue governing and transforming the municipality.” Her government partner, Junts, has a new candidate: the lawyer Quim Delgado. The candidate of four years ago, Ana Ritz, left the post of first lieutenant mayor in the middle of her term citing “personal reasons.”

This legislature has been marked by the pandemic and chaos in Tremp, especially after the death of 64 people in the residence for the elderly, Fiella. The case is in court and there have already been testimonial statements in the Tremp Court. There are two cases open at the moment: one against the former director and a former employee of the center for reckless homicide and degrading treatment and another against the former director and the Foundation of the residence, for a crime against safety at work.

Health intervened in the residence and management passed into the hands of Gestió de Serveis Sanitaris (GSS). The first wave of deaths made it necessary to set up a hostel-hospital in Tremp with eight patients and in the second the municipal shelter was set up as a hospital to free up beds at the Pallars Regional Hospital.

One of the challenges for the next City Council will be to face the tensions caused by the projects for the installation of photovoltaic parks in the Conca de Tremp. The Salvem Lo Pallars platform with the slogan ‘Renewables yes, but no així’, has forced the parties to position themselves and whoever comes out of the May 28 elections will have to do so.

Mayor Cases says that she is “absolutely against” and has promoted from the Geoparc Orígens, which she chairs, an urban regulation for the municipalities in the area to delimit the points where plaques can be installed.

The Tremp City Council suspended the licenses for new parks last year with the votes of ERC and Junts and the absence of Compromís. This past Tuesday, May 2, the City Council unanimously approved of all the formations the initial modification of the urban plan to regulate the installation of solar parks on undevelopable land in the municipality.

In 2018, the Conca de Tremp and neighboring municipalities received recognition from Unesco, a certificate that they revalidated in 2022. This area, made up of 19 municipalities, based in Tremp, is one of the great tourist attractions of the municipality. An open-air museum is scheduled to open this year where the formation of the Pyrenees will be reconstructed in an immense way.

The visitor will be able to know what the last dinosaurs that lived in Europe were like, as well as the cultural heritage of the territory thanks to the use of virtual and augmented reality techniques.

The new infrastructure commissioning program (PEA) of the Generalitat will include the modernization and expansion of irrigation in the Conca de Tremp. It is a historical claim of the risks, before a construction that has been stopped for more than ten years.

The infrastructure that now supplies irrigation is over 100 years old and does not allow farmers to monitor irrigation or optimize work. The irrigation area includes the municipalities of Castell de Mur, Gavet de la Conca, Isona and Conca Dellà, Llimiana, Talarn and Tremp. The works should make it possible to expand the current approximately 1,800 hectares by more than 4,500.

This petition is an old demand that has passed from the legislature on who will govern the Tremp City Council and neighboring municipalities. Whoever rules Tremp should see these works come to fruition after years of fighting.
