The American actor Treat Williams, known for playing doctor Andy Brown in the Everwood series, has died at the age of 71. As confirmed by his family, the popular actor lost his life this Monday in a motorcycle accident.
In information obtained by Deadline, the family also confirms that the accident took place in the state of Vermont, in the northeast of the United States.
As the state authorities confirmed to People after the accident, the accident would have occurred last Monday at around five in the afternoon, local time. The actor was traveling on his motorcycle when he was unable to intercept a car that turned without warning, ignoring that the actor’s motorcycle was approaching, hitting him without giving him a chance to maneuver.
Williams was seriously injured and was airlifted to a hospital in New York, where he died shortly after. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured. State authorities continue to investigate the details of the dramatic event.
“As you can imagine, we are shocked and deeply grieved at this time. Treat deeply loved his family, his life and his craft,” the interpreter’s family said.
His representative, Barry McPherson, only has good words for him. “They killed him this afternoon. I am devastated. He was the nicest guy you could imagine. He was very talented, he was a great actor and the filmmakers adored him,” McPherson said, speaking to People.
The actor leaves his wife, the also actress Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill (31), who has followed in the footsteps of his famous parents in the world of the arts; and Elinor (24), who continues with her university studies.
The actor leaves behind an enviable career. He started in the cinema in 1975, with his first film, Deadly Hero. From there, everything was successful, until reaching one of his peak moments in 1979, when he played George Berger in the 1979 Milos Forman film Hair, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. 1981 would get another nomination for best actor for his performance in Prince of the City.
However, most of the public will remember him as the charismatic doctor Andy Brown in Everwood, the series that made him an everyday name in every household. The actor played the lead throughout the series’ four seasons, even earning him a SAG Award nomination.
In addition, the actor has participated in other successful series such as Heart of Dixie, Blue Bloods, The Late Shift, Chicago Fire or Chesapeake Shores.
