Unemployment registered in the Valencian Community in March fell by 3,998 people compared to the previous month, 1.22% less and the third largest decrease in Spain in absolute terms behind Andalusia and the Canary Islands, leaving the total number of unemployed at 323,334 .

According to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, in year-on-year terms unemployment decreased by 16,964 people in the Valencian Community compared to the same month in 2023, which represents a drop of 4.99 percent. By province, Alicante is where unemployment fell the most in March, with 2,134 fewer unemployed people than in February, followed by Valencia (-1,555) and Castellón (-309).

Regarding affiliation to Social Security, the total number of contributors at the end of March in the Valencian Community stood at 2,129,577, the fourth autonomous region with the most affiliates after Catalonia, Madrid and Andalusia.

Thus, the number of workers affiliated with Social Security increased by 21,495 people compared to the previous month (1.02%) and by 61,039 people compared to the same month of the previous year (2.95%).

By activity, the number of unemployed fell in all sectors compared to the previous month, except in the construction sector, which increased by 16 people, and fell especially in services, by 3,577 people, followed by industry with 192 fewer unemployed people. , agriculture at -117 and no previous employment at -128.

Despite the decrease, the services sector continues to bring together the bulk of unemployed in the Valencian Community with 226,768 unemployed, followed by industry with 39,754, construction with 25,161, the group without previous employment with 22,811 and agriculture with 8,840.

The contracts formalized in the month of March amounted to 100,157 (516 less than the previous month), of which 51,424 are permanent and 48,733 temporary. By province, 54,053 contracts were registered in Valencia (25,592 of them permanent and 28,461 temporary), followed by Alicante with 34,836 (20,032 permanent and 14,804 temporary) and Castellón with 11,268 (5,800-5,468).

By sectors, unemployment fell mainly in the services sector with 31,294 fewer unemployed.

The regional Secretary of Employment, Antonio Galvañ, assessed this Tuesday that the unemployment figures for the month of March made public by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy reflect that “the Valencian Community once again demonstrates signs of economic strength.”

The regional secretary has highlighted that the number of unemployed people is “the lowest for a month of March since 2008” and that this month 100,157 contracts have been registered, of which 51,424 are permanent (51.3% of the total), as explained by the Generalitat in a statement.

The general director of Labora has indicated that this month of March unemployment has decreased, driven by the good tourism data in our Community during Fallas and Easter. “However, it has also performed well in agriculture and industry,” Galvañ clarified.

With respect to membership, Antonio Galvañ has also highlighted that this month leaves us with good data, since it increases by 1.02%, reaching the figure of 2,129,577 memberships, the highest number of memberships for a month of March since that there is data. Likewise, he highlighted that this month unemployment fell especially among women (-1.31%).
