Together for Catalonia has entered the municipal government of Mollerussa (Lleida), which until now consisted of Mollerussa Primer-Pacte Local and PSC.

In the presentation of the agreement, the leaders of the three parties said that the pact has been made with the citizens and the future of the city in mind.

“We gained stability, governability and efficiency and effectiveness when carrying out the proposals we want to make,” said Mayor Marc Solsona (Mollerussa Primer-Pacte Local). The new tripartite will govern with a majority with 10 of the 17 councilors and will allow the 2024 budget to be approved, which will exceed 17 million euros, 3.5% more than the current one.

As for the councillors, they will be expanded from 6 to 9 and will be divided into 4 from Mollerussa Primer, 3 from Junts and 2 from the PSC.

With the new tripartite, the Mollerussa government headed by Marc Solsona will no longer govern as a minority and will gain an absolute majority with 10 of the 17 councilors -4 from Mollerussa Primer, 4 from Junts and 2 from the PSC-.

Solsona has defended the agreement and has said that despite being between different political colors, he seeks to “work for Mollerussa” on shared issues such as the improvement of public space, the energy transition and mobility, as well as participation and attention to people, among others.

For his part, the socialist spokesperson and first deputy mayor, Joel Bastons, admitted the difficulties involved in governing as a minority and celebrated the agreement “to be able to face the future challenges” of the city.

Raül Aguilar, head of the Junts list, has justified the party’s entry into the government by saying that it will help “build Mollerussa” in a better way than being in the opposition. “I wanted to be an opposition builder, but I have understood that if you enter the government you can build a lot,” he argued.

The entry of Junts into the government will entail several organizational changes. As for the mayoral positions, the current five are maintained with the novelty that the second, held by Mollerussa Primer, will now be held by Junts and the fifth will be shared, two years for each of these two parties.

The councils will go from 6 to 9. Junts will assume three portfolios: Education, Sustainability, Energy Transition and New Construction, and Equality, Tourism, Participation and New Technologies.

The government will take the modification of the portfolio to the next November plenary session, scheduled for the 30th, with the expectation of beginning to assume the new council departments and organize the government starting in December.
