A few days before The World’s 50 Best Restaurants announces the new 50 best restaurants in the world – it will do so at a gala in Las Vegas on June 5 – the British ranking has already begun to warm up its engines by announcing the names of the establishments that this 2024 will be part of its list extended from 51 to 100.

Among them are three Spaniards: the Barcelona-based Enigma, from chef Albert Adrià in Barcelona, ??which has climbed from number 82 to 59; the Cadiz Aponiente, by Ángel León in El Puerto de Santamaría, which has gone from 64th to 72nd place; and the Guipuzcoan Mugaritz, in Errenteria, which has dropped from 31 to 81 after its chef, Andoni Luis Aduriz, received the 2023 Icon Award last year.

It is not known what will happen next June 5 with two restaurants that in the last edition appeared on the extended list of 50 Best and that this year are not included: the Biscayan Azurmendi, which was ranked 81, and the Valencian Ricard Camarena ( 96). These could either leave the ranking completely or enter the list of the 50 best.

What is certain is that in 2024 the gastronomy of our country could crown the ranking, since, with the exit from the podium to move to the Best of the Best category of the current best restaurant in the world, the Peruvian Central, the game seems which could be distributed between three Spanish restaurants: Barcelona’s Enjoy (now 2), Madrid’s Diverxo (3) and Asador Etxebarri in Biscay (5). Although it is not ruled out, as has already happened in previous editions, that there may be surprises and some other establishment may suddenly burst into the top positions.

The extended list of 50 Best includes 12 new products this year, of which four are French establishments. Of the 50 restaurants that appear in it, 13 are Asian, 23 European, 6 from North America, 5 from South America, one from the Middle East, one from Africa and another from Oceania.
