Officers responded to a call about a large truck colliding with a building at the intersection of Shirley Street and Cross Street around 2:45 pm. The suspect had stolen a truck belonging to a plumbing and drain business and crashed it into a house at Veterans Road in Winthrop.

The truck was stolen from Rapid Flow Inc.

“He flew down Shirley Street. It’s a narrow street. One witness said that he was on the opposite side of the street. “So, when he reached this house, I don’t believe he touched the breaks.

Witness also stated that he was present when the suspect fired shots.

“I heard the boom boom boom boom boom boom. I ran down and looked below. The body was in the middle the street. This was what I first saw. Because the shots were still being fired, I ran down and got down. The witness said that he saw smoke coming from the gun. “The girl was lying on her stomach in the middle the street. I noticed her not moving and walked up to her. She didn’t even move.

Winthrop Police Chief Terence Delehanty said that the suspect shot and killed two men and a woman in the vicinity of the crime scene. Both were bystanders.

“After the truck crashed into the house behind us, the driver got out of the truck and jumped over a fence before walking down the street. Delehanty said that he engaged the first victim and then engaged him in conversation with the second victim, who was farther down the street.”

Sources within I-Team say that the victim was a retired trooper.

Officers arrived on the scene and shot the suspect. He was later taken to the hospital. His injuries caused him to be declared dead.

Officer who shot the suspect was taken by ambulance to be evaluated, but he was not severely injured.

Col. Christopher Mason, State Police Superintendent, says that they have identified the victims but have not yet released their names to public. He said they are still working to notify their families.

Mason stated that although the identity of the suspect is known to police, it has not been made public.

Initial photographs showed that another car had also crashed near the scene. Later, police said that the two occupants were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is still active and ongoing.

Crews attempted to remove the truck that it had struck into late Saturday night.
