In music, collaborations between artists of different genres usually arouse enormous expectations among their followers. However, not all of these alliances come to fruition, leaving great stories of “what could have been and never was.” A clear example of this is the collaboration that never occurred between Camela and Rosalía.
The rumba duo, who told this story in Lo de Évole, have assured that everything was perfectly arranged for the Catalan to make her own version of When love sets sail, which was her favorite Camela song.
According to Ángeles and Dioni, members of Camela, everything was ready; However, despite her initial enthusiasm, Rosalía was forced to cancel the collaboration due to her busy schedule and other professional commitments. “She was very excited,” commented Ángeles, highlighting the Catalan artist’s genuine interest in participating in the project. Dioni, for her part, has regretted the situation and has tried to justify it: “She took the leap… and of course.”
The relationship between the members of Camela and Rosalía, despite the cancellation of the collaboration, seems to have been cordial and close. Dioni has told details about her moments of complicity through her video call: “She sang to me and I sang to her. So it was good with her.”
Jordi Évole, surprised by this sudden cancellation, has suggested that Rosalía, perhaps, had no influence in the decision to cancel the version. In this sense, Ángeles has insisted on the enthusiasm that Rosalía always had: “she was very excited, I promise you, she talked to me a lot.”
Camela, on the other hand, did have great collaborations with another monster of the performing arts: Juan Antonio Bayona. At that time, the Barcelona director was not very well known and he was in charge of helping the duo with their music videos. Although at first they didn’t quite trust it.
According to Dioni, when they arrived at the director’s studio, they found some “astronaut suits and a chroma.” So they didn’t really know what to expect from the “dwarf bastard” from Bayonne, who was dyed platinum blonde. However, they ended up delighted with his work.
