The mist prevents a clear view of Sa Foradada, a monumental rock pierced by an almost perfect hole, one of the greatest attractions on the Mallorcan coast and the main bastion of magical Mallorca. In reality, the mist, rather than subtract, adds; sum mystery and charm in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Balearic mountain range declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

Undoubtedly, in one of the most beautiful, wild and hidden corners of the Majorcan mountains is where the Son Bunyola hotel unfolds its kingdom, inaugurated last week by the Virgen Limited Edition hotel chain, owned by the businessman and adventurer Sir Richard Brandson .

The arrival is overwhelming, through a narrow road that connects Palma with Banyalbufar, one of the southernmost towns in the Serra, which takes us to a rural Mallorca far away in time. A small sign indicates an exit that leads to a winding path that descends to Son Bunyola. The path advances surrounded by bare stone terraces, which accommodate olive and almond trees. Vineyards have been planted on one of the terraces, which in the year 2026 will produce wine for the hotel.

The finca is part of the island’s own history, as the oldest parts of this former manor house date back to the 13th century. Walking through the rooms you can feel its remote past, in the old tiles, in a small altar of what was a church, in the old well or in the mill, an ancestral mill for grinding grain. This respect for the past coexists with an elegant current decoration, always through the Mallorcan tradition, from the textiles to works by contemporary local artists.

The 28-meter pool -surrounded by hammocks and Balinese beds with stunning panoramic views- is one of the jewels in the crown. From this vantage point, you can see the paths that customers can take on a walk to the sea -less than ten minutes away- or to ride a bicycle, ready to live a little adventure.

In total there are 26 rooms and suites, where a simple elegance predominates, which is far from baroque, very much in line with the essence of the island. Everything has its reason for being; each object has been evaluated and thought through, in this case by the Mallorcan architecture studio Gras.

Gastronomy is another of the great successes of Son Bunyola. They offer a tapas restaurant, another à la carte restaurant, and various outdoor terraces where meals are served under the direction of executive chef Samuel G. Galdón, who has worked in numerous Michelin-starred kitchens. Part of the Mediterranean and traditional gastronomy, with km 0 and seasonal products, which are combined with precision and good spirit to offer a top quality proposal.

Hotel Son Bunyola claims the slow life, slow down, connect with nature, with ancestral traditions, with the raw materials of the area, with the essence of the Mediterranean.
