This is how pensions will look with the new increase in January

Pensions will rise 3.8% at the start of 2024, once the inflation data for November is known today. The increase responds to the review mechanism in force since the end of 2021, which revalues ??them based on the CPI, which prevents the loss of purchasing power of the recipients. It must be taken into account that minimum and non-contributory pensions can rise higher if the Executive so decides, something that is not closed.

In any case, we will have to wait for the final CPI data for November, which the INE will publish on December 14, to confirm the exact percentage of increase, although the final CPI data usually hardly vary, except by a tenth.

To get an idea, with this 3.8% starting point and using the average benefits as a reference, the average of the entire system – retirement, disability, widowhood, orphanhood, in favor of relatives – will be installed above January after January. of 1,200 euros. In November, data known this week, the average pension of the total system was 1,197.87 euros and the increase would leave it at 1,243.39 euros.

In the case of retirement pensions, the general average is 1,377.73 euros. With the January update they would go to 1,430.08 euros on average.

If you look at modalities, those of the general regime are somewhat higher, with 1,512.19 euros. The 3.8% increase planned for January would take it to 1,569.65 euros.

In the case of benefits for permanent disability, in general terms they are 1,006.74 euros and as of January they would rise to 1,045 euros.

Disability pensions from the general regime currently amount to 1,032.38 euros, so in January on average they would be 1,071.61 euros.

In other types of pensions, less large but equally important for those who receive them, the widow’s pension is 853.77 euros on average, so it would now jump to 886.21 euros. For their part, orphan’s pensions would go from an average of 479.27 euros to 497.48 euros and those for family members from 705.31 euros to 732.11 euros.

If it is decided that minimum pensions rise above inflation, it would affect 2,153,193 pensions linked to minimums, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. The majority are for retirement, with 984,864 benefits.
