As in any other entrepreneurial center, Barcelona faces a series of challenges ranging from global competition to local bureaucracy. However, these challenges are not insurmountable obstacles, but rather opportunities to innovate and grow. One of the most notable challenges is the attraction and retention of international talent in an increasingly competitive labor market. Barcelona, ??with its enviable quality of life and rich culture, seeks to position itself as a magnet for creative and visionary professionals from around the world.
On the other hand, opportunities in Barcelona are abundant. The city has established itself as an important technological and innovation center, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology and sustainable mobility. Furthermore, the proximity to other major European cities and well-developed infrastructure make Barcelona a strategic location to establish and grow businesses.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the flagship event of the mobile technology industry and each year attracts thousands of professionals, entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world. In short, Barcelona is at the center of a constantly evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem, with exciting challenges and promising opportunities on the horizon. With Mobile World Congress 2024 just around the corner, the city is ready to shine as a beacon of innovation and mobile technology.
Within the ecosystem of Barcelona, ??we find Nuclio, who had his afterwork party in the vicinity of 4YFN, this Tuesday the 27th, at the Antigua Fábrica Damm, with the assistance and representation of the entire Spanish entrepreneurial ecosystem
Nuclio was born in 2016 as a venture builder in Barcelona with the mission of creating digital companies based on successful models in other countries. In 2020, following the incorporation of Ernest Sánchez as CEO, Elisabeth Martínez as COO and other partners, the Nuclio Digital Business holding company was created and Nuclio’s philosophy changed, maintaining the origin of the venture builder but deciding to transform it into a entrepreneurial ecosystem. Thus, Nuclio becomes a digital ecosystem, based on a series of companies between which it can generate synergies with the companies created by the venture builder and companies external to Nuclio. To achieve this, the management team takes into account 3 factors: talent, capital and execution.
Own companies, all those that have Nuclio plus their specialty (Talent, Digital School, Founders, Learning) that is, holding companies that aim to work from the ecosystem and for the ecosystem. They add value to the companies that Nuclio creates every year (4-6) but their clients are corporations, SMEs and individuals who have needs for the experience of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Ernest Sanchez, CEO of Nuclio, comments that if talent, capital and execution are needed to found and develop a digital project, with the new holding Nuclio provides an internal and external response to this need.
In the company factory, the venture builder, each year they create 4 to 6 companies, where through a curation of ideas and a committee of experts, 300 ideas end up being converted into 4-6 possible ones that spend a weekend of personnel selection filter. The Nuclio Weekend is like a kind of hackathon that serves as a very important talent exercise to validate the ideas but also the people who are going to work on those projects.
What the venture builder activity allows us to do is create companies that are successful. Nuclio shows a vocation in helping to conceptualize, select teams, form them, make them grow and be temporarily in them. We do not intend to have control or a majority, they will be financed by other funds while Nuclio’s role will progressively decrease over time, ceding the value to the co-founding teams and capturing partial or total sales as a return to its work as co-founders.
