The Platform of associations of relatives of victims of the Franco regime of the mass graves of Paterna has denounced acts of vandalism in the offerings deposited on April 14 in the mass graves of Paredón de Paterna (Valencia).

The families, members of the Coordinator of Associations for the Democratic Memory of the Valencian Country, claim to feel aggrieved by the “vandalization of the tribute”, which was organized by the PSPV in the Paredón de España in commemoration of April 14, proclamation day of the Republic

“We feel aggrieved to learn that the offerings deposited there have been destroyed, as if the hatred that ended the lives of our relatives had not disappeared in this country. They do not attack only their memory, they do so against democracy itself. El Terrer It is a space of Memory for all citizens, regardless of their beliefs,” they say in a statement.

For the relatives of the 2,238 murdered in the vicinity of the Paterna cemetery, El Paredón, where most of them died, “is not just a place, it is also an emotional space. We know that it was there that they looked at the sky for the last time and where they last remembered their loved ones,” they add.

For this reason, they say they feel like theirs and appreciate any tribute that is made in that place, such as the one carried out on the 14th by the PSPV (Paterna and the Valencian Community), the Valencia Provincial Council, the Government Delegation and the Government of Spain, with the presence of Minister Diana Morant.

“We know that acts of this type stain those who carry them out, due to their inhumanity and lack of empathy. Despite this, they cannot stop hurting us,” says the platform, which will go to the Paterna authorities to gather information and assess the possibility of a complaint.
