The Prosecutor’s Office requests 23 years in prison for a man accused of surprisingly murdering, in December 2019 in El Prat de Llobregat, his wife, with whom he was in the process of divorcing and with whom he had 3 children, whom he stabbed 32 stab wounds.
In a popular court trial that began this Monday in the Barcelona Court, the public prosecutor accuses him of murder with treachery, to which he adds the aggravating factor of kinship, and asks that he compensate each of the children with 400,000 euros, with 200,000 to the mother and 80,000 euros to the victim’s sister.
According to the indictment of the public ministry, both the accused and the victim were at the family home at noon on December 1, 2019, where the defendant attacked his wife in a surprise manner, using a knife, a total of 32 stab wounds.
Of the total number of stab wounds that the victim received, the public ministry reports that seven of them pierced his neck and another two penetrated him at the level of the left chest with damage to the diaphragm, lungs, pericardium and heart. “The cardiopulmonary and neck vessel injuries produced hypovolemic shock that inevitably led to his death,” according to the letter.
The accused had married the victim in 2017 after years of relationship, and they had had three children, all of them currently under the guardianship of the General Directorate of Care for Children and Adolescents (DGAIA) of the Generalitat, according to the report. the public ministry.
The defendant, as a result of the events, has been in provisional detention since December 5, 2019, after being arrested three days earlier.
A story that shares the private accusation made by the mother and sister of the victim, which requests a total of 26 years, 9 months and one day in prison for the crimes of murder with treachery and cruelty – with aggravating circumstances of kinship and gender – , mistreatment in the family environment and continued coercion.
As explained by the family’s lawyer during the previous allegations, the accused did not accept that his wife rejected the divorce conditions that he himself imposed, where she had to leave the family home without her children, so he coerced her and turned her life “in hell” until he killed her.
“A good man does not kill his life partner with 32 knife strokes, for an apartment or for anything: you separate and leave; nor do you harm your three children against the mother,” denounced the lawyer, who has asked the sworn to “not be fooled by crocodile tears.”
The accusation made by the Generalitat, which requests 25 years for murder with treachery, has been expressed along the same lines, who in its writing states that the accused “tried to control the life of the victim, going so far as to attack her and belittle her in front of her children, whom he was trying to turn against his mother.
For his part, the lawyer for the popular accusation exercised by the El Prat de Llobregat City Council, who is asking for the same years in prison as the Generalitat, has asked the popular court for “objectivity and seriousness in its way of seeing things, in the decision making.”
The only one who has denied the murder has been the defense lawyer of the accused, who instead requests 10 years in prison for homicide with obstinacy, and who has rejected, during his initial intervention before the jury, that it was a crime sexist in nature.
The representative of the accused has stated that the law on gender violence “speaks of a situation of domination of men over women”, something that, according to his version, “is not the case” and that he has assured will be proven during the trial.
The trial will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, with the appearance of the first witnesses, while the accused will testify at the end, once all the evidence has been performed.
