Adif and the Valencian municipalities of Alfafar and Sedaví have reached an agreement to carry out the studies for the suppression of the level crossing that divides the urban centers of both towns, in which several fatal accidents have been recorded in recent years, and the conditioning of the road system in the area of ??influence for the redistribution of road traffic.
The three administrations thus give a new step to the commitment made months ago to improve the urban permeability of the railway in this area, after three people were killed by trains in eight months, as reported by Adif.
The action framework unites the efforts of the three administrations, to define the most suitable formulas that contribute to increasing safety conditions, both for residents and for railway traffic, avoiding the risk of possible incidents at the level crossing, highlights a statement from Adif.
The protocol stipulates that the two municipal corporations and Adif will collaborate in the coordination and streamlining of the processes that make it possible to carry out the studies and projects.
Adif will assume the traffic reorganization studies and, where appropriate, the subsequent drafting of the level crossing suppression works project.
The solution developed by Adif will be justified by a study that shows that the traffic diversions caused by the closure of the level crossing will not cause unacceptable degrees of saturation in the rest of the municipal roads.
The agreement establishes the suppression of the level crossing as a short-term solution, to improve safety conditions and eliminate the acoustic warnings of the trains as they pass, not being conditioned by this measure the decision that can be adopted in the future on the burying
The three administrations have expressed their desire that, once the studies and projects have been drawn up, and the actions to be undertaken and their amount defined, they will sign a specific agreement for the suppression of the level crossing, according to Adif.
The Alfafar level crossing registers an average daily circulation of 163 trains and about 1,400 vehicles. It is located in a densely urbanized and highly inhabited environment and has high pedestrian traffic to cross the railroad tracks.
This action would join the six already existing steps at different levels, between the CV-407 and the CV-4125, in the approximately 1,700 meters that separate them, thus improving and guaranteeing the permeability of the railway line for vehicles and pedestrians.
