Correos has reported that the vote by mail for 23-J has exceeded by 81% the highest figure so far in an election, in the general elections of 2016, and by more than 98% compared to the last national elections of 2019.

Of the more than 2,622,000 requests that the Post Office received to vote by mail, 2,461,000 have been issued, according to the public entity. The conversion figure of 93.8% represents another historical figure in a general election in Spain.

As announced by the deputy director of operations of Correos, José Luís Alonso Nistal, currently, 93.8% of citizens who requested to vote by mail have already exercised their right to vote. This figure, which represents a record, was celebrated by the deputy director, who thanked his staff for the work they had done.

Nistal has reported that the number of those requests that remain unissued is usually around 8%, but in these elections the number of requests that have not exercised the vote is 6.2%.

In a meeting with the press, Nistal assured that on Sunday, “the postmen will arrive with all the votes at the polls.” In addition, he has shown himself “proud” of the measures that Correos has adopted.

Yesterday the Central Electoral Board extended the term for voting by mail until this Friday at 2:00 p.m., something that for the deputy director of the Post Office does not mean “a relevant increase” in votes. “On the 18th we finished with the shipments, we had more than two days for the citizen to go and collect his vote,” added Nistal.

Correos has also reported the deployment that it will carry out for the 23rd, in which “more than 14,000 employees will participate, as well as all the necessary vehicles to deliver the votes at the polling stations throughout Spain.”
