Agents from the Urban Police of l’Hospitalet de LLobregat gathered this Tuesday in front of the police station in this town in protest against their working conditions, which they consider “precarious”.
The agents of the Urban Police of l’Hospitalet denounce that their situation has not changed in recent years, despite being the second municipality with the most inhabitants in Catalonia, the UGT union has informed EFE. Other unions have also participated in the protest.
In a manifesto, these police officers demand an increase in staff, considering that they are “below minimum”, which affects correct attention to citizens, in addition to posing a “risk” for the agents and a “workload” .
In recent years, the Hospitalet City Council has carried out several promotions to increase the number of staff members. But at the same time many of the local police officers have retired and others have decided to go to work in other places, so the problem has not been completely resolved.
They also demand “decent remuneration” and an “increase in security”, both personnel and facilities. Among their demands, they also ask for the implementation of new technological means and an “efficient” administrative system.
Sources from the Hospitalet City Council have assured La Vanguardia that the protest has occurred at a time when it is expected that next week “the negotiation table will be reopened” with the local police.
These same sources have indicated that they “hope to reach agreements” with the Urban Police of the second city of Catalonia. If they succeed, it would close a period of certain conflict that has been going on for years.
