Education unions such as UGT Servicios Públicos de Madrid or Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) de Enseñanza, among others, estimated the follow-up of this Wednesday’s strike in Madrid at more than 65%.

The organizations detailed that there was “a significantly higher incidence in secondary education and in some areas such as Madrid capital.” Thus, the unions highlighted that the strike “is affecting the operation of practically all of the centers.” Likewise, the teachers “made themselves heard and are showing their indignation at the deterioration of their working conditions and, consequently, of public education,” they specified.

At the same time, teachers “are expressing their unanimous support” for the reduction in teaching hours, the reduction of the ratio and the hiring of sufficient teachers to apply these measures, as well as to attend to the diversity of Madrid’s students.

For his part, the spokesperson for the Government of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín, reported this Wednesday that, according to the data offered by the Ministry of Education, at 12 noon, the monitoring of the teachers’ strike was 24 ,5%.

This was stated during the press conference after the meeting of the Governing Council, where he stressed that they continue “with an outstretched hand to each and every one of the union organizations representing the teachers of the Community of Madrid.”

In this sense, he stressed the commitment of the regional government to continue with all the measures that have already been implemented in recent years, such as, for example, “the very important salary increase that was made to both teachers and professors.”

In addition, he also added that a “very relevant” measure that will “clearly” result in the improvement of educational quality is the reduction in the number of students per classroom in each and every one of the educational stages that is being implemented progressively. and that “it will improve education and allow teachers to dedicate more time and individually to students.”

Furthermore, in the afternoon, starting at 6:00 p.m., there will be a demonstration, with the motto ‘for teachers, for public education’, which will go from Plaza de Neptuno to Puerta del Sol in the capital.
