Propose to your girlfriend among miles and miles of pink peach and nectarine flowers. It is what he has just done, in the flowery fields of Aitona, the young Pole Pawe? Nasiorowski.

“He proposed, he knelt down and gave me the ring among the peach blossoms,” his girlfriend, Estela Api, a Peruvian nurse, says with emotion. “He told me that this time that we had been together he was very happy with me and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him,” she explains.

They arrived at the town of Lleida from Calafell on March 9, a rainy day. They got on the bus that took them to the fields. When the farmer finished explaining the flowering, Pawel took Estela to a secluded area, set up the tripod, and asked her to look to the side to see a bird. When Estela turned around, he was kneeling.

“I got on my knees and asked him if he wanted to marry me. After five seconds, she said yes. I don’t know if she was surprised or she had to think a bit, ”explains the young man.

“As it is a unique situation, I wanted it to be in a special way, we have been together for almost four years and during this time we always wanted to go see the flowering in Aitona, but due to covid or other things we had not gone. A month before I decided that it would be nice if I did it in that environment”, adds the young man.

Like Pawel and Estela, it is not the first time that Esther Vila has wanted to visit the Aitona farms. Last year she had reserved the route and a sprain prevented her from going when she had planned. As the campaign ended, the City Council suggested changing the date for this year. Also a nurse like Estela, she has come from Igualada with her eight-year-old daughter.

“It was worth waiting for. The girl had a great time, it was a good day and we were able to play in the parks there,” she says.

They did the guided tour with the bus, inside the farm, where the farmers explained the peach cycle to them. They were surprised that for the fruit to grow well, the peasants have to remove many flowers from each branch, so that the ones that remain become large peaches.

More than 24,000 people visited Aitona in last year’s flowering campaign, some models or influencers. Most came from Catalonia and some from Mexico, Japan or Argentina. This year, the organization offers the possibility of bringing pets because they detected that there were many people who wanted to come with their animals.

For the mayoress, Rosa Pujol, she is proud that the Fruiturisme of her town has inspired others to teach the flowering of the peach, nectarine or platerina. Torres de Segre, Alcarràs, Corbins or La Granja d’Escarp also do it and other towns begin to prepare routes of flowering almond trees. Borges International Group also offers routes to see their almond trees this weekend at their Mas de Melons farm, in Tàrrega.
