The processionary bags have already invaded the pine forests of Montseny en masse, as can be seen in this photograph in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia captured on the way to Turó del Home.

In a few years, if the drought continues, all these trees that we see in this natural area will be dead. Nothing can be done?

The processionary is considered a forest pest, since it seriously damages the foliage, weakening the trees and exposing them to other diseases. It is considered the most important defoliating insect in Spanish pine forests.

The caterpillars (larvae) are covered with stinging hairs that break off and float in the air, which can cause irritation to the ears, nose and throat in humans, as well as intense allergic reactions.

Climate change, with high temperatures and no significant frosts, favors its proliferation. A real plague that is difficult to combat.
