The tourist and business sector of Girona asks the Government for its support for the Ryder Cup

Eight organizations from the tourism and business sector in Girona ask the Catalan administration for its support for the Costa Brava-Barcelona bid for the Ryder Cup which, if closed, would be held at the PGA in Caldes de Malavella in 2031.

They believe that this international sporting event, which pits a selection of players from Europe and the United States, would have a major economic impact for the territory and would be a claim for “quality tourism.”

An economic impact -they maintain- that would not only be visible the year in which the competition is held, in 2031 if it ends up materializing, but in the years before and after. They emphasize that it is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments, the third sporting event with the most global impact after the Olympic Games and the World Cup.

In this sense, they consider that the territory cannot miss out on this competition, which, according to the organizers’ calculations, would generate 150 additional jobs, attract more than 270,000 visitors and generate an impact on the territory of more than 1,300 million euros.

The eight organizations from the tourism and business sector have wanted to publicly express their support so that the candidacy can be closed and ask the Catalan administration to also show its support for what they consider “a country project”

Among the entities in the field of tourism that support the Costa Brava-Barcelona candidacy are the Girona Camping Association, the Federation of Hospitality of the Counties of Girona, the Tourist Association of Costa Brava Apartments-Girona Pyrenees (ATA), the Girona Tourism Board and the Corporate Specialized Travel Association (Acave).

From a business point of view, the Federation of Business Organizations of Girona (FOEG), Pimec Girona and the Girona Chamber of Commerce have publicly shown their support for the candidacy.
