The excursion to the Font de l’Home Mort, in Queralbs, Ripollès region, not only opens the doors to an exceptional mountain landscape, but also invites us to discover the flora and fauna, as we see in Readers’ Photos from La Vanguardia.

And, even more, we must also be attentive to the tiniest inhabitants of these places, such as insects. Of all sizes and colors, it is an active part of this beautiful ecosystem that, despite its name, “dead man’s fountain”, is very alive.

Queralbs is a picturesque mountain town and the gateway to the Vall de Núria, with its characteristic Sant Jaume hermitage. In Collet de les Barraques we will enjoy magnificent views of Puigmal and the mountains that surround it.

The Font de l’Home Mort route takes us to live with nature and the activity linked to the landscape. In this sense, it is necessary to respect livestock crossings and, therefore, remember to close the electric fence.

To complete the route we must follow the markings of the GR-11 trail (white and red) from the town of Queralbs. The total distance is 32.2 km (round trip) with a positive elevation gain of 1,459 meters.

It is generally considered a difficult route, taking an average of 10h 46m to travel. This excursion is excellent for hiking lovers and is not very crowded.
