The Badalona Security Councilor of the Badalona City Council, Juan Manuel Ruíz, has been in charge of visiting the neighboring towns to begin the operational coordination of the police forces of the three cities, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Badalona. A coordination that could be expanded to other areas.
As a result of the contacts initiated, the three cities will establish a stable and permanent communication channel in the operational sphere of the police forces to configure a joint police strategy, especially in those border areas. For the moment, Ruíz has held meetings with the Councilor for Security of Santa Coloma, Salva Tobar and the Director of Security, Tomàs Carrión and with the Mayor and Councilor for Security of Sant Adrià, Filo Cañete.
The mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Núria Parlon, has stressed that “coordinated responses are necessary in the face of common problems,” especially in areas such as the Fondo or Llatí neighborhoods, where on a street “one sidewalk is from Santa Coloma and another from Badalona.” ”. “For me,” she says, “security is an absolute priority” and that is why she supports establishing a stable communication channel at the police headquarters level.
Along the same lines, Xavier Garcia Albiol, mayor of Badalona, ??considers coordination policies with neighboring municipalities a success. “Until now, police collaborations with other cities have been positive experiences” and he recalled, for example, the dismantling of the poverty market in the area bordering Remei with the municipality of Sant Adrià. A supporter of mixed actions, including surveillance, he assures that they will study the legal formula that “allows the police to enter neighboring municipalities” in exceptional cases, such as a chase. For Albiol “it is key that the desire for understanding materializes” between cities “with very similar real problems.”
The mayor of Sant Adrià de Besòs, Filo Cañete, believes that coordination in the face of shared problems “will allow us to act more quickly and agilely.” Núria Parlon adds that it is necessary to take another step in political coordination “to increase effectiveness and put a stop to crime.” The proposal of the Colomian mayor goes further and is that “the three mayors also monitor the agreements.”
