The teachers and technicians of the Tiana municipal daycare center (Maresme) plan to start indefinite strikes if the new tender does not improve their working conditions. They consider it unjustifiable that salaries have not been modified for ten years.

In September, the workers explain, they began conversations with the Tiana city council to expose the situation of job insecurity and be able to negotiate to reach agreements. They consider it unacceptable that their salaries have been frozen for more than ten years, so currently their base salary is the same as the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), 1,134 euros.

This Tuesday the plenary session will be held at City Hall, where the new conditions for this year’s tender will be issued, where “we want our demands to be reflected; salary equalization for the same work and the same salary category” as of September 1, 2024 and a gradual increase, and is reflected in the new Terms and Conditions, until a decent minimum wage is achieved for the work carried out. If the result “is not favorable to our requests” they warn that starting April 9 “we will begin indefinite strikes.”

The City Council supports the teachers’ demands, according to municipal sources. The Councilor for Education, Eulàlia Serrat, details that “the bidding rules must serve to mark the daycare project that we want for the town” which is why she considers it essential that the project include “a decent salary, like the one that any worker deserves.” of the sector”.
