The Talarn reservoir begins to release water as it reaches the limit of its capacity

The Talarn swamp, in Pallars Jussà (Lleida), has started to release water this Wednesday when it reached its capacity limit, 227,675 cubic hectometres.

It had been four years since the gates of the Sant Antoni reservoir had been opened to release water.

According to Endesa, the dam releases 60 cubic meters of water per second and will do so until this Thursday. Of the seven gates that the dam has, one has been opened. In the next few days, depending on the water contributions, it will open or close. The image of jumping water is one of the most anticipated by the residents of Pallars Jussà due to its spectacular nature. The Talarn reservoir is the deepest surface of fresh water in Catalonia and the third largest.

Talarn Marsh has seven top-counterweight automatic lifting gates. When the water level reaches a certain level, the first gate opens, and so on depending on the volume of water entering the swamp.

In parallel, there are four turbines that have not stopped working for a few days. In this way, the Talarn dam is evacuating water through floodgates and through the pipes that are quickly on foot.

The forecasts are that the thaw will still last for several days and, therefore, the people of Pallares will be able to enjoy the spectacular waterfall of the Talarn floodgates throughout the month of May.
