Like most major European car and motorcycle manufacturers, BMW’s plans for the future are directed towards fully electric mobility. The evolution of the brand in this field continues and it does so now with the introduction of a new electric vehicle designed, above all, for urban journeys.
Baptized as CE 02, the German firm ensures that it is an agile vehicle aimed at younger drivers and that it represents the arrival of a new generation of electric alternatives for BMW. And it is that, in its most basic version, it is neither a motorcycle nor a scooter, since it is an electric moped, a totally new segment for the Bavarian company.
At first glance, there is no doubt that it is an innovative and daring proposal, with a minimalist and practical design, designed to offer robustness, agility and driving possibilities in different environments. It should be remembered that the arrival of this new electric two-wheeled vehicle from BMW comes two years after the introduction of the CE 04 maxiscooter.
Seeing its aesthetics and its design, it is clear that the new alternative is not only oriented towards a functional use for daily transfers, but also seeks to exploit the leisure and fun aspect of the youngest. The variant designed as a moped will integrate a 4 kW electric motor, although there will also be a second, more powerful version of 11 kW (equivalent to a 125cc motorcycle).
The latter, which will be equipped with two 48 V and 1.96 kWh lithium-ion batteries, will offer a range of more than 90 km, as well as a maximum speed of approximately 95 km/h. In both versions, the BMW novelty features an upside-down front fork and a single-sided rear swingarm.
As long as the CE 02, in a moped version, is easy to maneuver and drive in urban traffic, it has reverse gear, a compact shape and a reasonable weight (119 kg), as well as a seat height of 75 cm. Depending on the version, the vehicle will have two driving modes called Flow and Surf. The first of them offers a more relaxed urban driving, while the second offers a more dynamic experience.
Optionally, as part of the optional Highline package, a Flash driving mode will be offered, which promises a driving experience with certain sporty touches. Among the CE 02 equipment, elements such as the 3.5″ TFT screen or the USB-C socket to recharge the mobile phone should not be overlooked.
Until the vehicle is available, the most technological users can enjoy the CE 02 in the BMW Motorrad MetaRide, a virtual reality space that the German brand has created to be able to test this novelty on two wheels through avatars.
