In this series of photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos we can see how the sun rises as if it had emerged from the branches of these apple trees in a crop field in TarrĂ²s.

Fruit trees give life to the landscape of the Urgell region all year round following the cycle of the seasons. In this case, the bare branches of the apple tree give prominence to the sun, as if it were the only fruit in the landscape.

The apple tree is a tree of the Rosaceae family. Currently there are about 1000 varieties. It has been cultivated for more than 15,000 years.

Its origin would be in the region west of the Tian Shan mountains, on the border between Kazakhstan and China, while it was introduced to Europe by the Romans.

Apples appear in many religious traditions, often as a mystical fruit or forbidden fruit. In any case, they are part of the wide range of fruit trees that we find today in the lands of Lleida.
