The number of complaints and the number of women victims of gender violence increased in the Valencian Community during the third quarter of this year by 13.9% and 19.9%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the “Quarterly Report on Gender Violence”, whose data were released today by the Observatory of Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary.

Between July and September 2023, Valencian courts received a total of 7,972 complaints, compared to 6,997 a year earlier. For their part, women victims of sexist violence were 7,870, while in the third quarter of last year there were 6,564.

Of the total of these victims, 4,827 were Spanish nationals, 61%, while the remaining 3,043 were foreigners, that is, 39%. For its part, the number of minor victims under guardianship in Valencian territory amounted to 12, a figure lower than that registered in the same quarter of 2022, when the minor victims under guardianship were 26.

By province, the number of victims was 3,733 in Valencia, 3,026 in Alicante and the remaining 1,111 were registered in the province of Castellón. Regarding the complaints, 3,821 were filed in the province of Valencia, 3,026 in Alicante and 1,125 in Castellón territory.

Of the 7,972 complaints received in this third quarter, 5,264 were presented by the victim, either in police stations – 5,224, which means 17% more than the same quarter as the previous year – or in court, where Valencian women the remaining 40 presented, a figure that has experienced a year-on-year decrease of 52.4%.

The relatives of the victims presented 161 complaints, of which 154 were filed at police stations and barracks, 81.2% more than the same quarter of the previous year, and the remaining 7 were filed by the victim’s relatives directly at the headquarters. judicial court, which represents a year-on-year increase of 600%.

Due to direct police intervention, the number of complaints registered rose to 1,343, 37.2% more than between July and September 2022. Complaints arising from an injury report submitted directly to the court increased by 10.7% between July and September 2022. September 2023, with 903, while those registered by third parties in general were 301, which means a reduction of 46.9%.

The number of victims who took advantage of the exemption from the legal obligation to declare increased by 13.3% compared to the same period in 2022, with 807 women who opted for this exemption between July and September 2023, compared to the 712 who They did so in the same quarter of 2022. Of them, 464 (57.5%) are Spanish and 343 (42.5%) have other nationalities.

By province, 411 women took advantage of the exemption from the legal obligation to declare in Valencia, 324 did so in Alicante and 72 in the province of Castellón.

In total, the Courts and Tribunals of the Valencian Community handed down a total of 2,087 sentences related to violence against women in the quarter analyzed, among the Investigative Courts with jurisdiction over violence against women, the Criminal Courts and the Hearings. Provincial. 83.3% of the total of these resolutions, that is, 1,738, resulted in a conviction.

Likewise, between July and September of this year, a total of 1,733 protection orders were requested from the judicial bodies of the Valencian Community, between the guard and specialized courts, figures that, compared to the 1,547 orders initiated in the same quarter of 2022, represent an interannual increase of 10.7%. Of them, 1,473 were requested by the violence against women courts and 260 by the courts on duty.

The protection orders adopted totaled 1,388, 8.4% more than a year ago, when the Valencian violence courts and on-call courts agreed to 1,280. In the quarter analyzed, the violence against women courts adopted 1,173, close to 80% of the requests they received, while the duty courts agreed to 215, 83% of the registered requests.
