Spring has arrived in the Segrià region and the storks are mating, as can be seen in one of the images in this photographic report in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos, captured in Torres de Segre.

For many years the storks in Lleida no longer migrate, but are now part of the landscape. Climate change helps, but they also easily find food in landfills.

Currently, in this area on the banks of the Segre River there is one of the most important colonies of these birds in southern Europe.

The white stork (Ciconia ciconia) is a large species of bird. Its plumage is mostly white with black on the wings. And the legs and beak of adults acquire a red color. It measures an average of 100 and 115 cm from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail, and its wings can reach a span between 155 and 215 cm.

It is also worth visiting this Segrià region in spring for the flowering of the fruit trees. In these photos we can see Paraguayans with the Seròs bell tower in the background, naturally with stork nests.
