La Seu d’Urgell promotes ‘Sona Canonges’, a festival of artisan cheeses that will be held on Saturday June 17 in the emblematic Canonges street in the capital of Alt Urgell. It is organized by the town hall and the Association of residents and merchants of the old town and its creation coincides with the moment of maximum cheese production.
The idea is to offer various cultural activities, such as a musical vermouth, a ‘swing’ exhibition and a concert by the Orquestrina Trama along with gastronomic activities, such as Menjar l’Alt Urgell rice, tapas, craft beers and cheeses. In fact, all the activities are a pilot test to see the feasibility of periodically setting up shows like this one to coincide with the weekly market on Saturdays.
The acting mayor of La Seu d’Urgell, Francesc Viaplana, explained that the event responds to the desire to energize Carrer de Canonges with a Saturday full of cultural and gastronomic proposals. In this sense, the acting vice mayor, Jordi Fàbrega, highlighted the fact that all the activities have been organized jointly with various entities.
Meanwhile, the acting Commerce councilor, Núria Tomàs, has detailed that both the swing exhibition and the concert by the Orquestrina Trama will take place in Sant Roc square.
For her part, the acting Deputy Mayor for Economic Promotion of the Seu d’Urgell City Council, Mireia Font, has indicated that it has been decided to include the sample of artisanal cheese factories from Alt Urgell and Cerdanya in this first edition of the festival, waiting to see how to fit it, periodically, in the weekly market.
In this sense, Judit Carreira, from Formatges d’Abadessa, has pointed out that the months of May and June are the months of maximum milk and cheese production and that, for this reason, they are interested in carrying out an activity of this type.
