The socialist spokesperson in the Valencia City Council is running for the European elections

The general secretary of the PSPV in Valencia and current socialist spokesperson in the Valencia City Council, Sandra Gómez, will run for her party’s executive this Wednesday to join the list for the European elections. On Thursday, the assemblies that must propose candidates to form the final national list begin.

Gómez’s name was already heard a month ago, but she, upset that it was leaked, avoided commenting on the matter. Now, the leader of the PSPV in the cap i casal takes the step, convinced that she has enough support (it is understood that the approval of the new leader of the PSPV, Diana Morant) to end up being in the starting positions of 9-J.

His possible departure opens the succession debate in the main city of Valencia. Gómez has been the PSPV candidate for Mayor on two occasions (2019 and 2023). In 2015, the socialists came in fourth place (behind PP, Compromís and Ciudadanos), but with sufficient numbers for the left to return to local government after 24 years; Gómez would become deputy mayor after the departure of the socialist Joan Calabuig from the City Council. In 2019, the government formula was repeated, but in 2024 the left had already lost the battle and returned to the opposition.

Now, Gómez seeks to open a new political stage in his political life, which will also force him to open a new stage in the city of Valencia.
