Snow falls intensely this Saturday in the Pyrenees – above about 700 meters – and already affects around thirty Catalan roads. Civil Protection has activated the Neucat plan due to snowfall that can exceed 20 centimeters above 1,300 meters in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees regions.

It is recommended to exercise extreme caution in all movements and check on which roads it is mandatory to drive with chains or if there are any roads closed. The most notable rainfall has been recorded in the high mountains, with more than 30 liters – in the form of snow – in Salòria, Espot and Boí.

Precisely on the C-16, at the height of the Cadí tunnel, the snow accumulated on the road caught many drivers off guard, creating a certain collapse on the road (see recorded images). Those who were wearing chains did not hesitate to stop in the middle of the road and put them on. Others were stuck unable to move forward, also in the middle of the road. A driver traveling in the opposite direction dedicated himself to recording the chaotic situation.

The majority of autonomous communities will be under warnings this Saturday for rain, snow, coastal phenomena and wind, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which foresees locally heavy rainfall in Galicia, the Pyrenees, the west of the Central system, and the east of Catalonia. , Balearic Islands and areas of Andalusia, among other notable phenomena.

This Saturday, the influence of a broad and deep low pressure system is expected to continue in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with several fronts that will leave cloudy or overcast skies, as well as widespread and abundant rainfall.

There is a probability that they will be locally strong and persistent in Galicia, the Pyrenees, the west of the Central system, the east of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and areas of Andalusia, without being ruled out in other central mountain areas, and with the possibility of being occasionally accompanied by storms. and hail. On the contrary, they will be occasional and less abundant in the Cantabrian Sea, around the Ebro and the Levant peninsula, tending in this case to slightly cloudy at the end.

They are expected in the form of snow in the mountains of the northern and southeastern half, with probable accumulations of 10-20 centimeters, and snowfall is also probable in lower areas of Galicia, the northern plateau and north of the southern plateau.
