FC Barcelona, ??which has nine world champions in its ranks and in which Jenni Hermoso played for five years, reacted to the Rubiales case five days later. And he did it with a tepid statement two and a half hours after the explanations of the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, who ruled out presenting the resignation.

“After the Extraordinary Assembly of the RFEF held this Friday, it seems that the explanations given by the president of the Federation, Mr. Rubiales, have been sufficient for the members present of the Assembly who had the power to ratify him in office” , point to the text.

“FC Barcelona wants to make it very clear that it considers the actions of the RFEF president totally improper and unfortunate during the celebration of the World Cup won by the Spanish women’s team. These are facts that we consider regrettable, which Mr. Rubiales himself considered a mistake and for which he apologized,” the statement continued.

“Faced with these unjustifiable facts, FC Barcelona undertakes to continue in the line of supporting women’s sport, full equality between men and women in the world of sport and in society in general, to guarantee the safety of women in sport and to denounce any action that violates our principles and Statutes”, adds the text.

On the other hand, the institutional vice president of Barcelona, ??Maria Elena Fort, has personally requested Rubiales’ departure. “I consider her immediate resignation necessary,” said the board through a message in a series of tweets. Fort wanted to offer “all the support” to all those women who “suffer from the unacceptable and disgusting machismo that prevails” and has pointed out that “the real problem” is that “in his imagination nobody has done anything wrong”, for what remains, has said, “lots of work to do.” And she has concluded with a reference to the soccer players who have rebelled against the situation: “At the side of all the women who have stood up and have said enough is enough, always.”

Within the club, another significant voice has become clearer, that of the captain of the men’s first team, Sergi Roberto. The man from Reus has republished Alexia Putellas’ tweet on X, adding a clear message of support for the players, both in Catalan and Spanish: “Estem amb vosaltres! We are with you!” Roberto’s entry has numerous grateful responses.

A prolific scorer, in 2020, Jenni Hermoso also became the all-time top scorer for FĂștbol Club Barcelona after surpassing 123 goals from Madrid’s Sonia BermĂșdez. Her teammate in the national team and current club player, Alexia Putellas, has been blunt on her social networks: “This is unacceptable, it’s over.”

The Government has announced that it is activating the complaint before the sports courts to suspend Rubiales. In her speech, the president of the RFEF has assured that she feels she is the victim of a “social murder” and that the controversial kiss was “spontaneous, mutual and euphoric. And, above all, consented.”
