In this snapshot in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia I show the sunrise with reflections in the sea on Riuet beach, in Sant Martí d’Empúries, L’Escala, Alt Empordà region.
The image shows us how the sun’s shadow is elongated on this line of the Mediterranean coastline of fine sand that is ideal for practicing water sports, especially those that require wind, an element that is not lacking in this area of ??the Costa Brava.
In reality, this sandy area is divided into two different areas. On the one hand, the area just below the center of Sant Martí, which is accessed by stairs and also known as La Miranda beach (after the name of the viewpoint at the top).
On the other hand, towards the north, we reach the most natural part of the beach, which takes us to the mouth of El Riuet, where we can see this solar pillar at dawn.
A pillar light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.
The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds).
