A new heat wave, the second of the summer, will push the thermometers tomorrow above 40 degrees in a good part of the country and will force the activation of alerts in more than thirty Spanish provinces, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The temperatures will be “significantly high” on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with the exception of the northwest and eastern coast.

35 degrees will be exceeded in a good part of the Spanish territory and 40 degrees will be reached in the center and interior of the southern half, as well as punctually in the Ebro. In addition, it is expected that in the Guadalquivir valley the mercury will reach temperatures up to 45 degrees.

The stifling heat will not let up either during the hours without sun, since according to the Aemet in many parts of the country the temperature will not drop below 25 degrees during the night. This will be the case of the Guadalquivir valley and the coasts of Granada and Almería, as well as some points in Mallorca. The day will be stable practically throughout the country with little cloudy or clear skies and no precipitation.

Regarding the provinces in which alerts will be activated due to weather conditions, Córdoba and Jaén will be at extreme risk (red), with maximums of 45 degrees; while the risk will be significant (orange) in Cádiz, Granada, Málaga, Seville, the Balearic Islands, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Toledo, Badajoz, Cáceres, Madrid and Albacete, which will also be on yellow alert due to storms.

Likewise, Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, Ávila, Burgos, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid, Zamora, Barcelona, ??Girona, Lleida, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja, Alicante and Valencia will be affected by this episode of heat, with yellow notice.

On the other hand, the Aemet has indicated that the temperatures will also remain very high during Tuesday, although with some changes in the eastern peninsula, the Ebro valley and in Mallorca, where the thermometers will continue to rise, with maximums of up to 43 degrees. . On the contrary, they will fall in the west and north of the peninsula, more markedly the further north and west. However, in the Guadalquivir valley, mercury will continue to set very high temperatures, exceeding 42 degrees.

In most of the territory, the culminating days of this episode will be Monday and Tuesday, since it is expected that as of Wednesday the thermometers will begin to decline due to the probability of a refreshment in most areas, mainly in the Ebro valley and other areas of the north of the peninsula, as well as in the Balearic Islands.

However, the agency admits that at this time it is not possible to establish with certainty the end of the heat wave, although it has advanced that it could be on Thursday. The most probable scenario indicates a tendency for the temperature decreases to continue as of Wednesday, although for several more days the temperatures will still be above the usual values ??in areas of the southern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

As for the Canary Islands, it is likely that the Saharan air mass will also affect the archipelago this Monday and Tuesday, raising temperatures progressively, giving rise to an episode of high temperatures, although Aemet considers that it is still early to determine if the heat wave will hit the islands.
