In La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos we can contemplate the Mediterranean of El Masnou and Premià de Mar, a shared landscape. The sunrises and sunsets in these two towns in the Maresme region merge into one.

The maritime landscape is marked by various scenes (the port, the beach, the seaside promenade) and various phenomena (such as the solar pillar reflected in the water).

We see images of the waves crashing against the rocks on the coast. And above all we can observe how the sun is the protagonist in different ways.

One of them is through the candilazo, a meteorological phenomenon in which the clouds in the sky show a wide palette of colors that ranges from pink to the most intense orange.

As part of the phenomenon of dispersion of sunlight, in the morning and afternoon hours, when the sun is closer to the horizon, the light that reaches the Earth is soft tones between red and orange.

In a certain way, when this light passes through the clouds, it illuminates them and could be said to color them with those tones.

The candilazo is also known as arrebol, which is the red color seen in the clouds illuminated by the sun’s rays, especially at dawn and in the evening.

With long sandy beaches surrounded by urban centers, the Mediterranean arriving from the south and the Alella stream crossing the town and ending where the port begins, Masnou is an ideal place to practice water sports.

For its part, Premià de Mar has 2.5 km of coastline, on which there are 5 beaches: Platja de Llevant, Platja de Bellamar, Pla de l’Os, Platja de la Descarrega and Platja de Ponent.

In some of the snapshots we can see the solar pillars over the sea. A pillar light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.

The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds). If the light comes from the sun (usually when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar

In other snapshots we can see trails in the sky, even at night. Airplanes form a vapor trail after the kerosene combustion process. The gases expelled by the engine come out at a much higher temperature than the outside temperature.

The sharp contrast in temperatures at a height greater than 30,000 feet (-50 degrees in the atmosphere) causes the immediate condensation of the water present in this mixture of substances. This causes us to see these kinds of elongated ice clouds that dissipate after a few seconds.

The views from the Maresme coast are splendid. Even with good visibility, we can enjoy panoramic views of the city of Barcelona, ??with its Montjuïc mountain and buildings such as the Glòries Tower standing out.
