The sacristan of the church in the center of the municipality of Carballo (A Coruña) has died after the serious injuries he suffered yesterday after an image of a saint fell on him this Saturday after suffering an illness due to a stroke.
The man, 78 years old and a resident of Coristanco, was transferred by medical helicopter to the University Hospital Complex of A Coruña (Chuac), with a stroke, where he was admitted and died on the same day.
The event occurred around 1:25 p.m. on Saturday and it was Emergency Services that alerted 112 of the incident and the movement of the aircraft for transfer. Local Police and Civil Protection, among others, were notified.
The sacristan was evacuated from the church of San Xoán to the San Martiño park, where the helicopter landed.
