The residents of Vilamitjana, without a telephone for a month due to a copper cable theft

The residents of Vilamitjana, in Pallars Jussà, have been without landline telephone service for almost a month due to a theft of the copper wiring.

The president of the Minor Decentralized Entity (EMD), Sisco Martínez, has shown his helplessness in the face of the situation.

Despite having presented various complaints to the telephone company since December 29, no one has paid attention to them. Martínez explained that a dozen elderly people live in the town, alone and without a mobile phone, who are practically cut off by telephone.

Martínez has explained that he is the one who supervises every day that everyone is well since his family members cannot do so by telephone. The doctor’s office and the town hall also do not have the service.

The president of the EMD has said that the inconvenience of having to work without a telephone in the doctor’s office or in the town hall is important, but that it is even more so for neighbors who live alone.

Martínez explained that the EMD is preparing a claim against the company and will ask all the affected residents of the town to do the same.

Next to the LV-9123 road (Fontsagrada) you can see the poles with the wiring cut. The copper cables that were cut and left at the same site are still there.

The mayor of Tremp, Silvia Romero, explained that lately they have detected an increase in copper wiring thefts in rural areas.
