More than five years ago, the Corts Valencianes approved Law 10/2017, which regulated the popular legislative initiative (ILP). A rule that forced to adapt within a maximum period of three months from the entry into force, the regulation of the regional Parliament to allow the spokesperson for the promoters of the citizens’ initiative “to participate in the final debate in plenary session”.
A circumstance that has not occurred until now because the regulations of the Valencian Chamber have not been reformed. Given this and given Vox’s desire that the association Hablamos Español could defend its proposal in plenary, the far-right formation has presented a proposal for an immediate reform of the regulation to be able to apply, five years later, what the law approved by Les Cortes.
It is not the only ILP that is pending debate in the Valencian Hemicycle. Also, promoted by Esquerra Republicana, a proposal was presented so that feminine hygiene products are free.
The consideration of this Vox initiative that will be voted on Thursday will go ahead because the PSPV trustee, Ana Barceló, has confirmed that her group will support “the adaptation of the regulations to Les Corts.”
The vote of the formation with the most deputies in the Chamber will be key for Vox’s request to begin its parliamentary process. PP and Ciudadanos have already expressed to La Vanguardia that they will also support it, but not Compromís and Unides Podem, who defend the substance of the proposal (in fact, the rule was promoted by Podem in the previous legislature) but refuse to join their votes with the extreme right. The Valencianist coalition has already indicated that they will vote against and UP moves between ‘no’ and abstention.
Once the request to change the regulation is approved, the parliamentary groups will be able to make their contributions in the debate in committee and present their amendments.
