The hate crimes section of the Valencia Prosecutor’s Office has opened criminal investigation proceedings for the tweets of the Vox councilor, Cecilia Herrero, on the social network X against, among others, the former Podemos deputy in the Community of Madrid Serigne Mbaye to whom he said “you need to go back to your country,” as confirmed by sources from the public ministry. The investigation analyzes other tweets from the councilor such as “So much reconquest to end up paying for the invasion of the Moors” or “Disgusting. They are savages. Get Africa out of civilized Europe.”

This is a message that was reported by Compromís. “We cannot look the other way, racism and hatred have no place in a democratic society” and “they cannot go unpunished,” said the municipal spokesperson for Compromís, Papi Robles, at a press conference when presenting the complaint to the prosecutor’s office. The councilor has demanded that the mayor of València, María José Català, remove the councilor from the government of the corporation.

Now, the hate crimes prosecutor, Susana Gisbert, has opened an investigation to evaluate these messages that could be classified as a hate crime, as confirmed by sources from the prosecutor’s office.

Compromís councilor Lucía Beamud also pointed out that her group does not have to do any “pensaeta” (reflection) about Herrero’s demonstrations and is clear that this woman “is a racist and not only because of her comment against a human rights activist.” , but because of the history he has on his social networks.”
