The PP withdraws the appeal that requested the acquittal of Bárcenas

The PP has decided to withdraw the appeal that requested the acquittal of the former treasurer of the PP, Luis Bárcenas, and of which it learned this morning. Despite the economic damage that this entailed, the PP has decided to withdraw it, “because it is not understood politically.”

As explained by the PP’s deputy secretary for institutional policy, that appeal was drawn up in November, and was presented a few days before the PP congress that made Alberto Núñez Feijóo president.

Despite the fact that the PP is convinced that the appeal “comes within logic”, since it believes that the PP is innocent, – it does not comment on Luis Bárcenas -, but when “the legal strategy collides with the political logic, when the legal strategy cannot be explained politically, political logic must prevail”.

Faced with this situation, the PP management committee, meeting this morning, has decided to withdraw the appeal, “with all the damage that this entails.”

The cassation appeal presented by the PP lawyers, requested the acquittal of Luis Bárcenas in order to request the acquittal of the PP, who was sentenced by the Supreme Court as civilly liable to pay a fine of 123,000 euros, and to be able to request that acquittal , there was no choice but to ask for the former treasurer of the PP.

That is what the PP considers to be politically inexplicable, although it has a legal logic. “We were not aware of the existence of this resource,” assured Esteban González Pons, and “upon knowing it, we have decided to withdraw it, because we do not share it, politically.”
