The PP continues to have intact its confidence that the 33 Vox deputies will support the investiture of the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, if King Felipe VI commissions him to form a government after the round of talks that the monarch will begin in the coming days, as establishes the Constitution, before designating a candidate. A support that Santiago Abascal has not withdrawn from Feijóo, but that he has not confirmed either after Vox was excluded from the Congress Table, since the PP did not give him any support. The leader of the extreme right will notify the King of his final decision and beforehand he hopes to speak with the PP.
The fact that those of Abascal did not support the PP candidate for the presidency of Congress, Cuca Gamarra, and that the popular ones have not supported the Vox candidate, Ignacio Gil Lázaro, so that he would have a seat at the table, made one think that the investiture was complicated for Feijóo, but after the constitutive session of the Cortes the doubt was cleared by Santiago Abascal himself when he assured that the PP had not skipped any agreement, but that it had acted “with little generosity” by not allowing that the third force with the most votes in the last elections is not represented in the Table of Congress.
And this is why they will demand “explanations” and “answers” to the formation of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, with whom they will continue to hold talks in the coming days ahead of the round of consultations with Felipe VI. Of course, the leader of Vox has left in the air the offer of the 33 deputies without conditions for the investiture of Feijóo. Nor has it been said that he withdraws that endorsement. What he has assured is that he reserves that decision, which he will meditate these days, to communicate it to King Felipe VI in the next round of consultations.
The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, stressed, at the same time, that the election of the Bureau and the investiture are “two different things”, and that for them the statement made public by the far-right formation was still valid. It will be now, stressed the number two of the PP, when they begin to talk about the investiture.
The importance, for the PP, that Abascal’s support remains intact, is of great importance, since this allows Feijóo to tell the head of state, when called for consultations, that he has the support of 171 or 172 deputies (The PP’s 137, Vox’s 33, UPN’s, and the last seat would depend on the final decision of the Canary Coalition).
They are not enough to be elected president, but they will be more votes than those that Pedro Sánchez will be able to say to Felipe VI, since at this time, neither Junts, nor ERC, nor even Bildu, have pledged their support for Sánchez’s investiture. However, by not having a majority in the Congress Table, it is now in the hands of the president, Francina Armengol, who will decide the date of a hypothetical investiture of the popular leader, if he is appointed president, which can be postponed, since there is no term for its celebration, to give Sánchez time to negotiate that investiture.
During the press conference offered at the congress, Cuca Gamarra criticized the assignments granted to the independentistas, and specifically to Junts. Sánchez has given in to all the requests of the independentistas”, he said, and stressed that “we do not know how far these cessions go”. That is why he demanded the PSOE, and more specifically Pedro Sánchez, to impose “light and stenographers” on their negotiations, so that the “Spaniards know what they have given up to the independence movement to have their vote and, having not won the elections, to be in charge of the presidency of Congress”.
Specifically, the PP demands Sánchez to clarify “if there is going to be an amnesty or a referendum on self-determination”, after verifying what he has given so that there is a presidency of the socialist congress, and having listened “actively and passively” that These were its conditions, those of amnesty and the right to self-determination.
“Therefore – Gamarra stressed – we demand explanations, light and stenographers from the PSOE, the government and Pedro Sánchez so that the Spaniards are aware of Sánchez’s transfers so that today, without assuming defeat, they have added their votes to the independence movement to try to govern All coast”.
For Cuca Gamarra, “if today, the independence movement with less parliamentary force, has the future of the country in its hand, it is because it has carried out cessions that the Spaniards should know about.”
